LIONS ROAR TO GREAT WIN

LEICESTER gave a solid all-round team performance to beat Scunthorpe 57-33 on a thrilling night at Beaumont Park.

The Paul Chapman and Sons Arena welcomed a bumper crowd on a glorious night and the racing kept them entertained throughout.

Even Heat 15 was arguably the race of the night when Watling JCB Lions star Nick Morris lined up visiting number one Danny King and pipped him to the post to bring the house down.

Scunthorpe were in contention for the first six races but the home side started to stamp their authority.

The Thompson twins, Dan and Joe, claimed some notable scalps and clearly took advantage of their experience of the Leicester track.

King was introduced as a tactical substitute in Heat 9 but Ryan Douglas had the edge with skipper Kyle Howarth third for a Leicester 4-2. It was Howarth’s first defeat at home in eight races.

Morris clocked the fastest time of the season in Heat 4 of 60.55 on his way to a top score of 14 with King the top Scorpion on 12.

A jubilant Morris said: “I really enjoyed that, it felt so good out there and it’s a good win for us.

“We’re a good team now and you can see that from this performance, we’ve got strength in-depth and we all did well.

“The track was good, I felt good because I was putting the bike where I wanted it to be and I got it right which is a nice feeling.

“It was a great night with good racing and a good win for Leicester so we’re happy.”
